Georgetown, DE -- The Indian River Indians (15-3) outlasted the Sussex Central Golden Knights (13-4) 5-2 in the Henlopen Conference Title Game Friday at Sussex Tech.

A true pitching duel between two of the best in the circle in IR's Kinsley Hall and Sussex Central's Madge Layfield exchanged six scoreless innings, racking up a combined 19 punchouts before the offense awoken in the 7th.

Lily Hoban led the top of the final frame with a double off the fence in left centerfield and moved to third on an infield single from Jaya Schaub. Hall dropped down a bunt RBI single to make it a 1-0 lead for IR. With two outs, Sophie Scurci crushed a two-out grand slam to give the Indians a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, the Golden Knights attempted to rally. Catrherine Hassler drew a lead off walk before Layfield smacked a two-run homer to make it a 5-2 game. Kameron Sockriter followed with a double, but Hall would get a pair of ground outs to end the threat and game to help IR win the conference title.
