SMYRNA, Del. — The Delaware girls' lacrosse season kicked off with an exciting matchup between the Smyrna Eagles and the Milford Buccaneers. Milford, led by two-sport star Hannah Zimmerman, took an early lead and never looked back, defeating Smyrna 12-5 in their season opener. The game started off scoreless as Smyrna’s Ava Pierce was denied by Milford’s Madison Stahl, keeping the game tied at 0-0.

Milford struck first with Zimmerman’s impressive goal, launching the Buccaneers to a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers continued to dominate, with Zimmerman adding two more goals to give Milford a 3-0 advantage. After a slow start, Smyrna responded with a goal from Pierce, followed by another from Alexis Hutchinson, but Milford answered each time to keep their lead intact. By halftime, the Buccaneers led 6-2, and they never relinquished control.
