FRANKFORD, Del. -- The Lower Sussex Senior Little League Softball team took their opening Senior World Series pool play matchup 8-5 over Pennsville, new Jersey earlier tonight.

The host representatives found themselves in a hole early, as Pennsville's Jessica Bretz got the scoring started with a two-run single in the top of third.

Delaware was quick to respond though, as Cierra Lewis cut the lead in half with a solo shot that just snuck over the center field wall.

Later in that inning, Ashley Ullman came just a couple feet shy of giving them a 4-2 lead, as she lifted a deep fly ball to straight away center that looked like it had a shot to get out, but died on the warning track for a fly out. However, it was plenty deep enough to bring in a run for a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 2-2.

From there, the Delaware bats were more than awake, as they would plate eight in their three-run win over New Jersey.

Next up for the ladies from Lower Sussex is a matchup with the Southwest representatives from Texas District 9 - the same Texas team that took the championship from them in last year's title game.
