LEWES, De. -- The Caesar Rodney Girls' Volleyball team was on the ropes for a moment, but they prevailed over a tough Cape Henlopen squad 3-1 (25-15, 25-12, 20-25, 25-23) earlier tonight.

Through two sets, it appeared the Riders were well on their way to a clean three set victory, as Senior Melissa Eddy led a strong offensive attack to a well controlled first two set victories.

They then held a two-point lead late in set number three, as they could practically taste win number six on the season.

However, the Vikings forced them to have to earn that sixth victory, as Amalia Fruchtman and Harper Mamele led a strong counterattack to capture nine of the final eleven points to take set three.

The fourth and eventual final set was not easy pickings for Caesar Rodney either. After taking a 24-21 lead, Cape Henlopen took the next two points, bringing the match ever closer to a fifth set. However, an errant serve on point 48 of the set clinched the well earned victory for the Riders.

This big road victory marks three in a row for Caesar Rodney and pushes their record to a stellar 6-2 on the year. They will look for win number seven in their next battle at undefeated Middletown (7-0) this Thursday at 6:00.

For the Vikings, they now fall to 4-4 on the year. To get back above .500, they will need to do it against the Conrad School (4-3) this Friday at 5:15. That matchup will be at home turf for Cape once again.
