NEWARK, Del. — The St. Mark’s Spartans surged past the Delmar Wildcats with a dominant 5-0 victory in the DIAA girls soccer quarterfinals on Tuesday. The match opened with back-and-forth action, including an early crossbar hit from Sadie Trumbull and a key defensive clearance by Delmar’s Zeny Hatton. But it was Gianna DiFebbo who broke the deadlock, sneaking a shot past goalkeeper Lily Baker to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead after officials ruled no offsides on the play.

Whitney Evancho added a long-range goal late in the first half to make it 2-0, and the Spartans kept their momentum in the second half. Lily Phillips scored early after the break, followed by Ava Danese capitalizing on a one-on-one opportunity to extend the lead to 4-0. St. Mark’s sealed the shutout with a fifth goal in stoppage time, securing their place in the DIAA semifinals.
