PRINCESS ANNE Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team officially opened its brand-new on-campus field Tuesday, marking a major milestone for the program and allowing the Hawks to play at home for the first time in more than four years. Before taking the field for a doubleheader against Virginia Union, the university held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the occasion, with UMES President Dr. Heidi Anderson, Vice President Tara Owens and Hall of Fame member Robin Pettit among those in attendance. The new softball field is one of two spring sports facilities receiving upgrades this season, as the baseball field is also undergoing improvements.
