The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce has released the official schedule and transportation plan for the 2026 Chincoteague Pony Swim, outlining a week of events including the annual pony swim, foal auction and carnival.
University of Delaware alum Elena Delle Donne will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026, the organization announced Thursday.
Before houses, shops and attractions lined Main Street on Chincoteague Island, there once stood an ice cream shop, a hotel, a post office and a factory. Just over 100 years ago, the island was filled with dirt roads and wood and brick buildings, according to assistant director of the Museum of Chincoteague Island Cindy Faith. “It looks sort of like any movie set that you would have seen out west depicting the turn of the century,” Faith said.

The Chincoteague Island Pony Swim is celebrating 99 years of festivities on Wednesday, though there are centuries of history behind the swim from Assateague to Chincoteague Island.
