Wicomico High School Announces 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

SALISBURY, Md- Wicomico High School (Wi-Hi) announced inductees into its 2026 inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame. The individuals include both student-athletes and coaches from the 1950s up until the early 1980s that helped shape the success of Wi-Hi's athletic program. The members of the 2026 inaugural class include:

• Charley Berry - football coach (posthumously)
• Warren Squires - football and basketball coach (posthumously)
• George Schoepf - football, track, and cross-country coach (posthumously) 
• Denver Knapp - football, wrestling, baseball, gymnastics coach (posthumously)
• Sam Seidel - boys basketball coach from 1947-1952 and contributor to Wi-Hi athletics (posthumously)
• Mary Morling Troy - girls basketball and field hockey coach from 1951-1960 (posthumously)
• Jane Schiller (Class of 1957) - first Wi-Hi athlete to score 1,000 career points in basketball. Also a golf champion who was inducted into the Maryland Golf Hall of Fame. 
• Butch Waller (Class of 1958) - boys basketball coach from 1966-2026, also coached baseball and golf.
• Rocky Burnett (Class of 1958) - basketball and football standout who scored 41 points in a game.
• Bud Elzey (Class of 1967) - outstanding baseball, soccer, and basketball careers at Wi-Hi.
• Tony Gunther (Class of 1971) - two-time state pole vault champion in track and field
• Harris Strozier (Class of 1973) - accomplished career double of 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. 
• Ed Lashley (Class of 1975) - at the time, he finished as an all-time leading scorer in basketball. Also played baseball professionally. 
• Joyce Rieben (Class of 1981) - finished career with 1,151 points including a school record of 42 points in one game. 
• Brian Butler (Class of 1983) - at the time, he finished as the all-time leading basketball scorer with 1,351 points. Also played collegiately.
