The Wicomico High School’s basketball team defeated Southern 66-51 to advance to the 2A state championship game for the first time since 2019. The team was determined to make it back to states, especially for Coach Butch Waller, who is retiring following this season. A championship ring wouldn’t be such a bad way to end your final season coaching at Wi-Hi.

Wi-Hi won in comeback fashion tonight after trailing for much of the first half and trailing 32-31 at halftime. After allowing 20 first quarter points, the Tribe locked down on defense, only allowing 31 total points for the remainder of the game, including a 4-point 3rd quarter. Wi-Hi would claim a 15-point victory after outscoring the Bulldogs 35-19 in the second half. The Tribe will play Lackey in the 2A state final game after they defeated Middletown 59-51 in their state semi-final game.
