GLEN BURNIE, Md --- The Stephen Decatur Seahawks are heading to the state championship after a thrilling 4-3 win over the Damascus Hornets in a game that went into extra innings. The Seahawks were down 2-1 in the seventh inning, but pitcher Emily Blume provided a dramatic game-tying home run to keep her team alive. As the game entered the ninth inning, the score was still tied at 3-3, setting the stage for an intense final frame.

In the top of the ninth, the Hornets had an opportunity to take the lead. Brooke Sell, who had just reached the plate, hit a line drive to Blume, who made a quick throw to first base for the first out. With a runner on third, Kate Shiflett stepped up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Amaya Hammond home to give Damascus a 4-3 lead. However, Decatur contested that Hammond had left third base too early, and after a review, the umpires ruled the runner out, keeping the score tied at 3-3.
