The Delmarva Shorebirds fell in their home opener to the Augusta GreenJackets, 10-7, Tuesday night. A high scoring affair was the story of the first game of six between these two teams with Delmarva falling to 1-3 on the season and Augusta picking up their first win of the season, improving to 1-3 themselves.

The scoring opened right away with Luis Guanipa singling in a run for the GreenJackets in the top of the 1st inning. It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the 3rd where the Shorebirds answered with 4 runs of their own to take a 4-1 lead highlighted by a 3-run home run by Joshua Liranzo. Augusta would immediately strike back with 3 runs of their own to tie the game in the top of the 4th before Delmarva would retake the lead with a run in the bottom of the 5th. The GreenJackets would tack on 2 more in the top of the 6th immediately followed by another Delmarva run in the bottom of the 6th to re-tie the game at 6-6. The GreenJackets would then take the lead for good in the top of the 7th with 4 runs and despite a Shorebirds leadoff homerun by Jordan Sanchez, in the bottom of the 9th, the GreenJackets would hold on to win game one of this series 10-7.
