DSN Power Rankings Week 2

Here we are Delmarva football fans; the second week of the DSN Power Rankings! With week zero in the books, there was a ton of movement in the Henlopen Conference Rankings. We will see three new faces grace the top five of our list.  Now, before we get into the full list it’s important to note that Thursday night games DO NOT count towards this week's rankings. With that caveat out of the way, let’s go over the algorithm that determines where the teams start the week.

Part 1

  • A team loses 2 DSN points after losing to a team below .500

  • A team loses 0 DSN points after losing to a team .500 or better

  • A team receives 1 DSN point after defeating a team below .500

  • A team receives 3 DSN points after defeating a team .500 or better

Part 2:

  • A team receives and additional 1 DSN point for a road victory

  • A team receives 2 DSN points after defeating a DSN Top 5 team

  • In the event of a tiebreaker, the team with the higher margin of victory will get the higher seed.

  • If two teams have the same margin of victory, the team with more points scored on the season will get the higher seed.

Part 3 (the additional rules):

  • A team receives 0 DSN points after defeating a 1-A level team

  • A team receives 1 DSN point after defeating a 2-A level team

  • A team receives 2 DSN points after defeating a 3-A level team

  • If a team loses to a team in their class, they lose 0 DSN points

  • If a 2-A team loses to a 1-A team, that team loses 2 DSN points

  • If a 3-A team loses to a 2-A team, that team loses 2 DSN points

  • If a 3-A team loses to a 1-A team, that team loses 4 DSN points

Now with the rules explained, let’s reveal the power rankings for the Henlopen.

10. Indian River Indians: (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Result: 27-14 loss to Odessa

The Indians saw their first regular season loss in two seasons and it came at the hands of a team they defeated by 41 points last year. IR did go into the halftime break up 14-7, but 20 unanswered by the Ducks gave the Indians their first loss of 2026. They’ll look to get back on track against Seaford Friday, September 11th.

9. Woodbridge Blue Raiders (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Result: 28-23 loss to Delaware Military Academy

Woodbridge looked like they were about to leave D.M.A. with a win, but a 23-6 lead quickly turned into a late 4th quarter rally by the Seahawks who scored the go ahead touchdown in the final 2 minutes of the game. The Blue Raiders take the tiebreaker (-5) over Indian River (-13) due to Margin of Victory. Woodbridge faces Wilmington Friends Friday at 3:30pm.

8. Polytech Panthers (1) DSN Point (1-0)

Last Week Result: 45-6 win over Early College

Polytech stormed out of the gates with an opening win over Early College which earned them 1 DSN Point to start out the season. The 2A Panthers are the lowest team on our rankings to secure the win, but the margin of victory keeps them at 9. Polytech is coming up on an early season bye, but will face Conrad on the road Saturday, September 19th at 11am.

7. Sussex Tech Ravens (1) DSN Point (1-0)

Last Week Result: 50-0 win over Glasgow

Another season opener, another blowout win over Glasgow. The Ravens handled business in the shutout win over Glasgow thanks to over 300 rushing yards as a team as well as a scoop and score by Ezekiel Maloney. Sussex Tech (+50) takes the Margin of Victory over Polytech (+39) which gives them the 7th spot on our list. Their next matchup? Their first road trip where they take on Tatnall Friday at 4pm.

6. Milford Buccaneers (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 44-0 win over Conrad

Milford ended the season on a high note with a blowout win in last year’s regular season finale. This year, they picked up right where they left off with a 44-0 shutout over Conrad. You can thank Andrew Sivels for being a big contributor to that win. The senior tailback tallied over 200 rushing yards and finished with four touchdowns. The Buccaneers also have a second week bye and take on Indian River Friday, September 18th at 7pm.

5. Seaford Blue Jays (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 49-0 win over AI Dupont

There were concerns about how the offense would look with Vince Evans III and Brendan West graduating. But, Everett Burton filled in those shoes quite nicely adding two touchdowns of his own. At least four different starters scored a touchdown for the Jays in the all-around team win. Seaford hosts Indian River Friday at 6pm who handed the reigning 1A state champions their lone loss in 2025.

4. Cape Henlopen Vikings (3) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Results: 34-3 win over Saint Mark’s

Cape Henlopen jumps up one spot after defeating 2A Saint Mark’s on the road which gives them an extra DSN point. Jameson Tingle had another masterclass recording 4 total touchdowns. The defense also deserves some praise, allowing one field goal in the first quarter and giving up no points since then. The Vikings face their first 3A foe in William Penn this Saturday at noon.

3. Lake Forest Spartans (3) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Results: 49-14 win over North Caroline (MD)

Lake Forest dominated against Bayside foe, North Caroline 49-14 thanks to the defense forcing two turnovers. The Spartans (+35) take the tiebreaker over Cape Henlopen (+31) thanks to the Margin of Victory. The Spartans are one of many Henlopen teams to have a second week bye, but they’ll face Cape Henlopen September 18th at 7pm.

2. Smyrna Eagles (3) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Results: 38-0 win over Red Lion CA

Smyrna graduated many of their key offensive pieces, but that didn’t matter in a dominant 38-0 shutout win over the defending 2A DIAA state champions in Red Lion. The Eagles got out to a 30-0 halftime lead thanks to a hat trick of touchdowns by Cape Henlopen transfer, Mikiah Jackson. With a larger Margin of Victory, Smyrna (+38) takes the second spot over Cape Henlopen (+31) as the Eagles look ahead to Frederick (MD) September 10th.

1. Sussex Central Golden Knights (4) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Results: 28-24 win over West Philadelphia (PA)

Sussex Central came out of Labor Day weekend victorious over 4A foe, West Philadelphia who already played a game in their regular season. The Golden Knights did what they do so well and that is running the ball. Over 285 yards on the ground as a team despite a much closer result than last year. Up next, a first round bye for the Knights before their Week 3 matchups against Woodbridge.

Remaining Teams Rankings:

11. Early College Hornets (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Results: 45-6 loss to Polytech

12. Laurel Bulldogs (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Results: 34-0 loss to Stephen Decatur

13. Delmar Wildcats (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Our attention now moves to the Bayside Conference where we saw significant early movement.

10. Snow Hill Eagles (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Results: 43-21 loss to Wicomico

Snow Hill put up a good fight against the 2A state semifinalists from a season ago. Despite the losing effort, AyJion Manuel had a big game of offense tallying 145 yards on the ground and adding two touchdowns. Jaydon Boulware also added 10 tackles on the other side of the ball. The Eagles (-22) narrowly earn the Margin of Victory tiebreaker over Kent County (-23). Snow Hill now makes the trip to Virginia to take on Nandua September 11th at 6pm.

9. Cambridge-South Dorchester Vikings (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Results: 21-13 loss to Kent Island

Cambridge South Dorchester looked like they were going to pull off a massive upset over the new-look Kent Island Bucs. But, a late turnover would give KI the close eight point win. The Vikings do have another shot at revenge as they face 3A foe, James M. Bennett who they fell to last season in shutout fashion. Kickoff is Friday, September 11th at 6pm.

8. Colonel Richardson Colonels (0) DSN Points (0-1)

Last Week Result: 7-6 loss to James M. Bennett

Colonel Richardson takes the eighth spot on our rankings and its the highest ranked team with a loss after their one-point defeat to 3-A foe, James M. Bennett. This was the first meeting between both these squads since 2018 where the Clippers won, but the Colonels could not avenge that loss. Their next matchup? A cross-conference battle going on the road to face Delmar (DE) Friday at 6pm.

7. Washington Jaguars (0) DSN Points (0-0)

Last Week Result: DNP

Washington was set to take on Northampton (VA) on the road, but cancellations occurred due to inclement weather and extreme heat. The Jaguars are coming off their strongest season of the decade winning their first game since 2019 as well as their first playoff game in over a decade. Washington takes on North East (MD) on the road this Friday at 6pm.

6. Kent Island Buccaneers (1) DSN Point (1-0)

Last Week Result: 21-13 win over Cambridge-South Dorchester

Kent Island got the win over 1A Cambridge-South Dorchester at home which gives them only one point in this week’s rankings. The Bucs sealed the game with a 75 yard pick-6 late in the fourth quarter to give Trent Jackson his first win as head coach. Kent Island goes across the bridge for their first road game against Middletown (MD) who the Bucs fell to at home last year.

5. James M. Bennett Clippers (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 7-6 win over Colonel Richardson

James M. Bennett started out 1-0 for the first time since their 2018 season opener which happened to be against Colonel Richardson. Dustin Mills also records his first win in his return to the Clippers sideline. A road win gives the Clippers one extra point as they jump six spots to the fifth spot on our list. Bennett continues their road trip taking on Cambridge South Dorchester Friday, September 11th at 6pm.

4. Wicomico Tribe (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week’s Result: 43-21 win over Snow Hill

Wicomico lost many key starters on offense, but you couldn’t tell the way they put up points in the win over the Eagles. A 29-point second quarter was more than enough to give the Tribe all the momentum needed. The defense also stepped up holding Snow Hill to just 7 points in the second half. The Tribe (+22) won the margin of Victory tiebreaker over Bennett (+1) with that win.

3. Stephen Decatur Seahawks (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 34-0 win over Laurel (DE)

The Seahawks looked dominant in every way possible shutting out 2A Laurel. Kyle Mumford had over 140 total yards and a hat trick of touchdowns while Jaxon Archer ran a punt return back for a touchdown early in the game. The Seahawks (+34) take the Margin of Victory tiebreaker over Wi-hi (+22) to keep them at the third spot in our rankings. Stephen Decatur will look to climb in the rankings when they hit the road to face the Tribe who snapped their 28-game winning streak last year.

2. Parkside Rams (2) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 48-0 win over Delmar (DE)

Parkside opened up their season with another blowout win over Delmar, this time a 48-0 shutout. The Rams (+48) had the biggest jump in the rankings going from 9th, to 2nd thanks to their Margin of Victory win over Stephen Decatur (+34), Wi-Hi (+22) and James M. Bennett (+1). But, it will take a lot to stay there especially with a test against Easton this Friday at 6pm.

1. Easton Warriors (3) DSN Points (1-0)

Last Week Result: 46-22 win over Caesar Rodney (DE)

Easton looked exactly how they were advertised after bringing in two of the most explosive players in the Bayside. Jadereon “Flash” Thompson erupted for over 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Jazir Dickerson recorded two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Warriors also defeating 3A, Caesar Rodney gives them two bonus points which is enough to remain in the top spot of our rankings.
