Delaware QB Zach Marker left the game with an injury in the first quarter, but Delaware still rolled past Delaware State 35-17 in the season opener. It was Delaware State Head Coach Desean Jackson's college coaching debut, and the Hornets certainly impressed. Marquis Gillies racked up 123 yards on the ground and Sacramento State transfer Kaiden Bennett threw and passed for a touchdown.

For Delaware this was their first game as an FBS program, as they join Conference USA. Head Coach Ryan Carty improves to 23-1 in home openers as a coach and player.
