SALISBURY, Md. -- The Salisbury University Softball team is just one step away from getting back to Division III College Softball World Series, as they scathed by Lebanon Valley College 3-1 in Game 1 of the Super Regionals earlier today.

The Sea Gulls entered this Super Regional with a target on their back as the nation's number one ranked squad in Division III thanks to a record of 42-3 on the season. However, being the team to beat tends to bring out opposing squads best shots when they match up with you, and they certainly got that from the Flying Dutchmen today.

Through four innings, Lebanon had Salisbury on edge, as they took a 1-0 lead into the top of the fourth on a Megan Heard inside-the-park home run. Dutchmen starter Jordan Walter was also dealing on the bump, holding the Gulls scoreless through three innings.

However, the Salisbury bats finally cracked through in the bottom of the fourth, where a Natalie Paoli double to left knotted the game back up at 1-1. The Gulls then took their first lead of the ballgame in the following half inning, when Catcher Emily Stockman came through with a big two-out RBI single.

They added some insurance to that lead in the sixth, where Lindsey Windsor started a two-out rally with a triple, which was then followed up by a Carrie Jacoby RBI bloop single to make it 3-1.

Defensively, Salisbury got a standard great pitching performance from Windsor, as she went the distance, throwing seven strikeouts, walking just two, and allowing just the one run on four hits.

This win puts the Sea Gulls up 1-0 in the best of three Super Regional, with Salisbury looking to advance to their third straight Division III College Softball World Series. They will have two chances tomorrow to do so, with Game 2 slated for a 1 p.m. start.
